Welbeck keen to fight for Manchester United spot

Danny Welbeck is expected to reject the idea of going out on loan again this season, as he hopes to secure a spot in the Manchester United first team.

The striker spent last season on loan at Sunderland, where Sir Alex Ferguson hoped for him to more get regular first team action.

With the emergence of Javier Hernandez last season, Welbeck is hoping to take inspiration from his Mexican teammate, stating: “What Javier did shows you that if you’re in form, the manager plays you – and he is always going to give youth a chance as well.”

“We have got good competition among the strikers at United so you have just got to go out there and show what you can do,” Welbeck added.

Welbeck’s spell at Wearside proved successful as he earned his first England cap in March, coming on in the friendly against Ghana. However, the 20 year-old seems adamant to not go out on loan, noting:

“I went there and showed people what I can do by scoring goals in the Premier League and I have come back to United a bigger and better person.”
