West Brom midfielder claims Luis Suarez took a dive

Paul Scharner feels Suarez took a dive to earn the penaltyWest Bromwich Albion midfielder Paul Scharner has claimed that Liverpool striker Luis Suarez took a “nice dive” against the site during their recent 2-0 defeat.

Suarez saw felled in the area on Saturday afternoon which was originally waved on by the match referee but flagged by the linesman.

it is not the first time Suarez has been picked up for diving although in this instance contact was made. Scharner however claimed that his side were not good enough to get back into the game but suggests the penalty should never have been awarded.

“It was a nice dive for the penalty and that got Liverpool well started for the game. It put us under pressure and we weren’t good enough to respond.”

The West Brom midfielder continued:

“He is very good at winning penalties. He’s one of the best on the planet, in fact. I had a good view of it. If that’s a penalty, then you will find 1,500 penalties are given in every match. I know it was the assistant who flagged for it and maybe he had a better view than the referee. But there was a general feeling amongst all the players that it was a soft penalty.”

Suarez is currently under investigation for alleged racist remarks against Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra however the Uruguay international has been pulled for foul play and diving on other occasions. Most notable is perhaps when he bit an opponent whilst playing for Ajax and also for the hair pulling of United defender Fabio last season.

Whilst there is no denying his talent, there remains a dark side to his game that surely even Kenny Dalglish will want to remove from his artillery.
