West Ham new boy claims move was vital

Nicky Maynard has revealed that he was left upset following the reaction of Bristol City fans regarding his recent exit, however admits that a move West Ham was far too attractive.

The 25-year-old joined the Hammers in the winter transfer window, ending speculation which has linked him with a move away from Bristol for a long time.

Maynard is adamant this desire to play in England’s top flight is what led him to leave for West Ham as they are currently top of the Championship.

The goal poacher has admitted that would have loved to stay at the club and made the step up with them following all they have done for him and his career, but believes that his decision to leave CIty was the right one.

Maynard said: “I’m not going to spit my dummy out. I always had a good relationship with the fans and I do regret how things ended.

“The fans were great to me during my time with the club – it’s just a blow it came to that at the end.

“Every player wants to play at the highest level he can and I’m no different.
“Of course, I’d have loved to have done it with Bristol City, but that did not work out.
“I enjoyed my time at City, but the chance to join a massive club like West Ham, who are destined for the Premier League, was just too good to turn down.”
