West Ham to take on Joey Barton should Parker switch to Tottenham

Joey Barton remains a talent despite his previous "bad boy" tagWest Ham manager Avram Grant is prepared to take a gamble on Newcastle United’s Joey Barton should contract talks between the player and club fail to materialise.

However, West Ham will only make the move should Scott Parker decide on a move to the North of London at Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur. Whilst Grant would most likely prefer both of them for next season, a lot will depend on the final few months in the Premiership to see whether the Hammers can seal Premiership survival.

The 3-0 win against Stoke City recently had taken the club out of the relegation zone although things at that end do remain tight. Should West Ham be relegated then an exodus of certain players will be highly likely with Parker the most likely candidate to be first to be sold off to the highest bidder.

Should the great form for West Ham continue though, and they remain a Premiership club for the 2011/2012 season then Grant will look to increase the quality of depth in the squad making Barton a priority during the summer.

With Thomas Hitzlsperger returning to action recently, West Ham are not short in the midfield area but another addition would be welcome despite Joey Barton’s bad boy image.
