Wigan Athletic manager Unsackable

Roberto Martinez will not be sacked according to Dave WhelanWigan Atletic chairman Dave Whelan has said that current manager Roberto Martinez’s position within the club will never questioned, claiming he will stick by the manager through the tough times.

Wigan managed to remain in the Premiership last season after some late form saw them climb towards safety. Aston Villa were so impressed with Martinez that they even offered the position of manager to the 38 year old only for the Spaniard to confirm his commitment to the Latics.

Wigan currently hold the rest of the Premiership up at the bottom of the table having collected only five points from a possible thirty and are currently three points adrift of safety, however Whelan claims that he and Martinez will stick together.

“Roberto’s position is never, ever in question. We stay together, I respect him, and I know I’m going to get 110 per cent from Roberto every time the team takes the field. Things are going against us but we have to keep battling on. My spirits are never down. We may be at the foot of the table right now, but we won’t be at the end of the season.”

The Wigan Athletic chairman added:

“We can get out of this mess together. We’re not fools, we can look at the table and we really have to rally round and do what we do best.”

Wigan next face Wolves away who lie three positions above them in 17th.
