Wigan manger Martinez focusing on big picture

Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has declared his side will not be looking to target a specific part of the Spurs team that they face today, but rather to focus on keeping the entire opposition team at bay.

Tottenham star Gareth Bale has been in a great vein of form so far this season, including a terrorising performance against Liverpool last week. However, whilst Martinez is well aware of the threat Bale poses; he has called on his team to focus on the opposition as a whole rather than individuals if they want a result.

“It will be a big mistake if you focus on one or two players of Spurs because you will get damaged by the others so you need to be careful,” said the Latics boss.

He continued:

“It is difficult because if you put so much attention on Gareth Bale then you will give too much time to Luka Modric, Scott Parker,Jermain Defoe or Emmanuel Adebayor – and the list goes on.”

“You need to be well-balanced and keep the ball well. When you play against a side like Spurs you need to be perfect as they have no real weaknesses. They are in a great moment of form and are getting stronger and stronger.

The Spaniard added that his side will need to be at their best, rather than Tottenham at their worst, if they are to win:

“If we are going to win on Saturday it will be because we will be outstanding and not how poor Spurs will be.”
