Wolves confirm offer for Championship star

Reports have confirmed that Wolves have made an approach to sign Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard amongst a host of English interest.

Stoke City, West Brom, Fulham and West Ham have all shown an interest in signing the forward after he was transfer listed by his Championship club.

Wigan Athletic have also been linked with a move for Maynard and are understood to have had a bid accepted for the player last week but failed to agree personal terms and the move broke down.

Mick McCarthy could be bracing himself for the exit of either Kevin Doyle or Steven Fletcher who have both been involved in a heap of transfer speculation over the past month.

Maynard has made 27 appearances for Bristol City this season, scoring on eight occasions as well as making two assists.

The forward’s contract is set to expire in the summer and rather than lose the 25 year-old on a free transfer, City may choose to cash in on their talisman in the next 48 hours.

Although the player looks set to leave Ashton gate during this transfer window, Bristol City are unlikely to let him leave unless Wolves can meet his reported £3.5m valuation in full.

The West Midlands club haven’t found goals particularly hard to come by at home this season but appear to be struggling away from the Molineux and will be hoping that Maynard’s capture can help in that regard.
