The pair have met three times before at Alexandra Palace in the World Championships with the big Dutchman winning two of those meetings, which will give him a slight mental edge going into this hotly anticipated battle.
Their most recent meeting in this prestigious competition came in the 2011 quarter-finals, where an in-form Barney triumphed 5-1 in front of his passionate followers.
They will be out in force again this year, with Ally Pally reporting that their best selling merchandise is the famous “Barney Army” t-shirts.
The markets make the big Dutchman slight favourite to rack up another victory over Anderson, however the 8/13 with Ladbrokes hasn’t been too popular as it seems as though punters are expecting a very, very, close match between the two players. Anderson is a solid 5/4 shot and although his recent form hasn’t been visually impressive, this is a man who when in the mood has the ability to outplay anyone in the world.
His form in the last round against John Bowles was surprisingly poor.
The big scoring was there but his finishing went to pot, to such an extent that Bowles missed four darts for the match. Anderson fans will be saying that was the wakeup call the Scotsman needed and there is little doubt that he will improve for taking on Barney.
Barney has sailed through the tournament thus far. Hitting doubles and plenty of maximums along the way. He looks back to his best, but we have been here before with the big man. Barney seems to flounder and lose his confidence when up against the better players on the PDC and Anderson has the capabilities to do just that. This one is likely to be a tight affair though.
The correct score market looks the best place to take your custom and dutch your money on a 4-3 win to either play. Van Barneveld is 6/1 to triumph 4-3 whilst Anderson is a tempting looking 9/2 with Paddy Power.
Also playing on a star studded day of darting action is James Wade, who should make mincemeat of Vincent van de Voor, and a potentially explosive match between Simon Whitlock and Dave Chisnall.
Ante-post second favourite Michael van Gerwen is a 1/9 shot with Ladbrokes to see off Colin Lloyd in the evening session but the bet that everyone wants to be on according to the bookies is for Kevin Painter to eliminate two-time World Champ Adrian Lewis in the last match of the evening. Painter has all the battle hardened qualities to take advantage of an underperforming Lewis, and the 6/4 on offer from Ladbrokes looks well worth taking.
Even though all the tickets have been sold out for the this bumper day of darts, you will never have to miss an arrow as sponsors Ladbrokes have released great news that they will be providing Live Streaming of every World Championship match via their website, mobile and Ipad applications.
In order to access the streams via a laptop, mobile or Ipad, you need to sign up to an account with Ladbrokes, which is of course free of charge.
The slight catch is that Ladbrokes do require you bet on the match in question in order to view the HD coverage but as it’s only £1, it really isn’t too much of a problem. As long as you have a good Wi-Fi or 3G connection, you can access a perfect live feed of your chosen match with added commentary so you don’t miss a beat.
