Valencia Stoke Odds: Uphill task for Pulis in Europa League betting

Stoke City travel to Valencia on Thursday evening looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first-leg of their last 32 Europa League tie.

Tony Pulis’s men certainly have it all to do after defeat on home soil in the first-leg, with many concluding when the draw was made that Stoke had to win at the Britannia Stadium to stand any chance of progression.

They must go to Spain with belief though, perhaps recalling the performances that saw them secure commendable victories at Hajduk Split and Maccabi Tel Aviv earlier in the competition.

They also managed a hard-fought draw at Dynamo Kiev, so the Potters are not intimidated by travelling away from home in Europe. Valencia – who currently sit 3rd in La Liga – offer the toughest challenge yet though.

It isn’t as if Stoke find themselves in excellent form either. Domestically, they have lost their last four Premier League games. They did manage a 2-0 win at Crawley Town in the FA Cup most recently though, so they will look to take this performance into all be it different surroundings on Thursday.

As for Valencia, they would have seen the first-leg as the really difficult test in this tie. The fact that they came away from Stoke with a 1-0 win should stand them in good stead ahead of the home game.

They are unbeaten on home soil in Europe this season too having won two and drawn one of their Champions League group games before dropping into the Europa League. They even managed a 7-0 victory over Genk back in November.

They did lose their only game in-between the two matches with Stoke though, going down 5-1 at Barcelona on Sunday. This shouldn’t affect their pedigree on home soil though and they are no doubt favourites to win on Thursday evening.

Overall, Stoke are not expected to get anything from this match and there is no doubt that it would be the most famous night in their history if they were to turn this game around. We can’t see that happening and we’re all over the 4/9 on the Valencia home win.

You can see how they get on from 6pm on Thursday evening.
