Arsenal contemplating bid for Brazilian ace

Reports are suggesting that Arsenal are considering a move for Shakhtar Donetsk talent, Luiz Adriano, as they seek to add some attacking flair to their squad.

The Brazilian forward has been a key player for the Ukrainian side in recent years, a highlight of which coming in the 2009 UEFA Cup final where he scored the opener in an eventual 2-1 victory.

The North London side have been linked with moves for numerous strikers in the run-up to the January transfer window as they look to ease the burden placed on club captain, Robin van Persie.

Although the Dutchman is currently enjoying the form of his life, van Persie would surely welcome some top class backup, with the faltering trio of Marouane Chamakh, Andrey Arshavin and Park Ch-Young being his only reinforcements at the moment.

With Chamakh and Arshavin reportedly on their way out of the Emirates, the French manager may free up some funds for a move for the 24 year-old, who could be available for £10m.

The Brazilian frontman has made 127 appearances for Shakhtar since his arrival in 2007, scoring 51 goals in the process.

Manager Arsene Wenger has several youngsters waiting in the club’s wings, but if the Premier League outfit are to creep back into the Champions League spots, an instant injection of talent may be necessary.

Adriano is older than the Frenchman usually chooses to purchase, however the acquisitions of Yossi Benayoun and Mikel Arteta have shown that the Gunners boss is changing his transfer approach to suit the needs of the club.

Club owner, Stan Kroenke, told club supporters earlier this year that he was willing to put his money into the side in an effort to revive their glory days and may have to back up his claims in the New Year if they are to achieve a top four finish.
