Chelsea admit defeat in hunt for Brazilian hitman

To the great dismay of any Chelsea supporter, Andre Villas Boas has stated that the West London outfit are unlikely to complete a deal to sign Brazilian superstar Neymar.

The Blues were being massively linked with a big money move for the youngster over recent seasons but it appears as if Barcelona or Real Madrid will ultimately win the race to lure Neymar away from Santos.

Speaking to Spanish media on Monday, the Portuguese boss stated: “I think that the Neymar matter is closed and locked in a safe.”

The 34 year-old also added: “He has decided his future and no-one knows where he will go. Unfortunately, he will not come to us.”

Despite his age, Neymar holds a magnificent scoring record with Santos and in 160 appearances for the Brazilian outfit, the striker has scored 83 goals.

The 20 year-old recently penned an extension to his contract at Santastíco keeping him at the side until 2014, although he isn’t expected to see out the deal.

Meanwhile, Andre Villas Boas’ future at his club continues to be the subject of media speculation also, with rumours suggesting that Jose Mourinho will make a return to England this summer and replace his former protégé.

Various media outlets have said AVB has held talks with Roman Abramovich that could concern his position with the Blues and although the manager only took upon the role in June 2011, he may not be at the helm of the club next season if results don’t show improvement in coming weeks.
