Chelsea FC to go back for Modric with increased offer this weekend

Chelsea FC will increase their offer of £22m for Tottenham Hotspur’s Luka Modric this weekend by a further £6m taking the total offer to £28m.

Their initial offer on Thursday evening was rejected by the White Hart Lane hierarchy with Spurs manager Harry Redknapp even labelling the offer “ridiculous” however Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will do what he can to land the Croatian who the West London club see as vital to their plans, he also wishes to get one over on Manchester United who are also keen to land the 25 year old.

Modric’s performance in both Premier League and Champions League this season have been of the highest quality and as Chelsea seek a long term replacement for the ageing Frank Lampard they firmly believe Modric is the answer. The big question is will Modric want to leave North London?

Finishing fifth this season mean Tottenham will now play in the Europa League and Modric may feel that he would like another stint at the top level. Daniel Levy and Harry Redknapp have other ideas though and have already warned other clubs that they shall not be selling their best talents and be labelled a “selling club”.

That is much easier to say than do though and with the possibility of a cheque worth £28m winging its way to Levy’s door he may feel that the money could be better invested elsewhere. The fresh bid of Chelsea for the £28m is expected to be made this weekend. Should this amount also be rejected it is difficult to say whether the Stamford Bridge club will return with an even better offer or perhaps focus their full attentions on Javier Pastore.
