Liverpool hoping to move for Tottenham target
Following on from the summer spending spree of 2011, it looks as if New England Sports Ventures may once again splash the cash at the end of the season and are reportedly looking to complete a deal to bring Tottenham target Loic Remy to Anfield.
The French international was apparently close to a Premier League switch in January with Spurs manager Harry Redknapp even going as far to watch the striker in person on a scouting mission to France.
However, the 25 year-old insisted that he is happy where he is and failed to make the move across the English Channel but could opt to do so later in 2012.
It’s unknown if Tottenham will reignite their interest in the forward later on in the year but if the North London outfit were to do so, they would undoubtedly prove considerable competition for Liverpool as they look assured to finish above the Reds this campaign.
Remy has impressed greatly for Marseille this season and has made 33 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit scoring 17 goals in the process.
The former Nice star will now be focusing on impressing for France in Euro 2012 before thinking of any transfer business but could opt for a move to England after the tournament.
Marseille are understood to have valued their scoring asset at a fee of around £22m and although Kenny Dalglish’s side would probably be able to meet the fee, it’s a case of whether Remy would be open to a Merseyside move that poses the biggest obstacle.
Although Luis Suarez has resumed his scoring form since returning from an eight-match suspension, the Uruguayan is being rumoured with a move away from the club and although the Reds were already in the market for striking reinforcements, Remy would become a definite option should the South American move away from the club.
