Liverpool set to move for Inter prospect

After declaring themselves out of the race to sign Manchester City outcast, Carlos Tevez, it seems Inter have gone to the other end of negotiations after it emerged that Liverpool are interested in signing attacking midfielder, Philippe Coutinho.

The 19 year-old suffered a slight setback in his development earlier this season after being hit with an injury that saw him miss over a month of football, but has returned in impressive style.

Inter are willing to listen to offers for several of their bigger stars after it became apparent that the Serie A side were experiencing some financial troubles that required immediate attention.

The side were thought to be offering Wesley Sneijder in part exchange for Tevez but now that the deal has fallen through, they’ll need to employ a different tactic to solve their current woes.

It’s common knowledge that Liverpool were looking to add some attacking flair to their squad before the eight-match suspension of Luis Suarez, however the Uruguayan’s ban has only made the need all the more poignant.

Despite spending over £50m on their midfield over the summer, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam haven’t had the impact that Reds fans were hoping for and the side are still looking for that extra bite.

Coutinho has only made 15 appearances for Inter, scoring a sole goal for the Italian giants but his creative play has received massive praise in recent seasons, with many labelling him as one of the most promising youngsters in the game today.

The attacking midfielder is also a Brazilian international, having made one appearance for Brazil, playing in a friendly against Iran in October 2010.

New England Sports Ventures have already shown their commitment to the Liverpool cause since their 2010 takeover, injecting millions of pounds into squad reconstruction over the past year and could decide to splurge on the January transfer of Philippe Coutinho, should they decide to meet his £8m asking price.
