Newcastle weighing up move for Sochaux talent

Sources suggest that Newcastle United are keen to add to the French contingent already at the club and will make a summer approach for Marvin Martin.

The Sochaux playmaker has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham already this year as well as several La Liga outfits but the Magpies are just as keen on taking advantage of the Ligue 1 side’s current predicament.

Sochaux find themselves in a battle for survival in the French top flight but if they were to see a drop to the nation’s second tier, Martin is likely to be one of the first players to exit.

The likes of Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux and Hatem Ben Arfa have already shown the value of investing in French talent this season, all playing their own hands in helping the club to a magnificent campaign in which they are fighting hard to clinch a European spot.

Other French-speaking talent at the club include Demba Ba, Papiss Demba Cissé and Cheick Tioté and Martin may be tempted by the move which would undoubtedly prove an easier transition with his native language and countrymen in abundance.

The North East outfit have already shown greater ambition this campaign in beating several other clubs to the signature of Cissé and will look to build once again at the end of the season and fend off competition for Martin’s transfer.

As it stands, the 24 year-old French international would carry a price-tag of around £14m but should Sochaux drop down to Ligue 2, his valuation could drop considerably making the move all the more likely.
